The Gaza Civil Defense said a woman trapped under rubble for five days after an Israeli attack in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City has been rescued alive.
May El Helou, 42, was buried under rubble on October 15 when an Israeli attack hit the home of her family, who had fled from other parts of the Gaza Strip. Civil defense teams removed bodies and several injured people from the area, but returned on Sunday after residents reported hearing sounds of people living under the rubble. "God has written a new life for May...Unfortunately, some of her family members were killed," he added. El Helou is recovering in Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. CNN has reached out to the IDF for comment on the attack in Tal al-Hawa.
“Our crews headed back to the site of the strike, and we were able to dig (her out) with bare hands and using very primitive equipment including a jackhammer,” Mohammad Al Maydaneh, the director of Gaza Civil Defense public relations, told CNN Tuesday.
